Traveling to Virginia Beach by train from different parts of USA West Coast: Many different Amtrak routes are available, but most of the trains go to Chicago and from there you would need to change the train for Washington DC, and from Washington DC to Newport News, Virginia. Experienced travelers say the California Zephyr is one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America. As you climb through the heart of the Rockies, and further west through the snow-capped Sierra Nevada's, you may find it hard to disagree. It is not a train trip it is Amtrak vacation. South Coast: If you are traveling from Southern States like Florida or Georgia, you can change the train at Richmond, Virginia and from there change the train for Newport News, Virginia.  North Coast: The changeover of train is at Washington, DC to Newport News, Virginia. Train travel USA can be lot of fun with Amtrak routes through the scenic areas.Amtrack Train provides many different types of accommodations, for shorter trips you have the choice of booking a coach class or business class, for longer trips you have options to book roomette, bedroom, bedroom suite and family bedroom. Some of the train amenities includes; checked baggage service, lounge, dinette, cafe and snack cars, and dining car. Baggage - Checked baggage service is available on all long distance (overnight) trains, and on some short distance trains. Passengers may check up to three pieces of luggage at no extra charge. Each item checked should not exceed 50 pounds in weight or 36 by 36 by 36 inches in size.
Coach Accommodations - Coach seats on the train are roomier than airplane seats. Long distance coaches feature comfortable reclining seats with foot and leg rests. Lounge Car - The lounge car on long distance trains, open to all passengers, is a great place to meet people and enjoy the scenery. The Dining Car - "There is nothing finer than dinner in the diner!" The dining car on most long distance (overnight) trains, is a sit-down restaurant serving good, reasonably priced meals prepared on board. Meals in the diner are part of the train travel vacation. Large windows provide a good view of the ever-changing scenery as you dine.
