Virginia-Aquarium
Dolphin and Whale Watching

Virginia-Aquarium offers two spectacular and educational adventures for the whole family, Dolphin and Winter Whale Watching tours.

dolphin-watching virginia beach Enjoy the majestic views of bottlenose dolphins in the Atlantic Ocean. Bottlenose dolphins live in groups typically of 10-30 members, called pods, but group size varies from single individuals up to more than 1,000.

Bottlenose dolphins use sound for communication, including squeaks and whistles emitted from the blowhole and sounds emitted through body language, such as leaping from the water and slapping their tails on the water surface. This 90-minute excursion is both fun and educational for adults and children. Cruises are offered April through October.

During the Whale Watching tours you will get the chance to see some of the most magnificent creatures on earth in their natural habitat.

Each excursion is narrated by a trained Aquarium educator while experienced volunteers show whale artifacts and answer questions. A unique, exciting opportunity for entire families to experience.

During the tour you may see pelicans, northern gannets and other sea birds. Local landmarks as the historic Cape Henry Lighthouse, DeWitt Cottage and Old Coast Guard Station may also be visible in some trips. Whale sightings are not guaranteed . Cruises are offered December through March.

Please note that Dolphin and Whale Watching trips leave from the Virginia Beach Fishing Center at Rudee Inlet, 200 Winston Salem Ave, Virginia Beach.
