HISTORIC VILLAGES AT CAPE HENRYHistoric Villages at Cape HenryFour hundred years ago on April 26, 1607, the English settlers who would go on to found Jamestown made their first landing at Cape-Henry. The Historic Villages at Cape-Henry have been carefully recreated on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story and you are invited to travel back in time and watch history come alive. The 2010 Season begins May 27th and continues through September 4th. An American Indian village welcomes you as you travel along beautifully wooded, winding paths full of cultural history. On trails amid live oak trees, journey into the past with our docents as they describe tribal practices, such as building canoes, curing meats, and story-telling. As you complete your journey through the village, a clearing reveals a 17th century colonial outpost, complete with watchtower, palisade, church and trading post. Throughout your journey, we invite you to compare and contrast the survival strategies of these two distinct groups and discover how this clash of culture affected American history. Just beyond the outpost is an innovative stage for live outdoor theatre. Built to offer 180 degrees of picturesque views, guests can enjoy the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding dunes while the captivating performance of 1607: First Landing unfolds before their eyes.
